De Buik Magazine: from online platform to tactile experience

What happens when a successful online food platform teams up with a communication company that loves tangible media? Exactly this: a magazine you can taste, smell, and feel.

At Dex, we work for our clients – but we also love to bring our own ideas to life. One of them is De Buik: the go-to food platform for anyone who loves good food and drink. With an independent and upbeat tone, we share stories from the hospitality scene in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague. Through our website, app, social media, live events – and now also in print – we reach more than 1.5 million people each year.

A summer ode to tastemakers
The second edition of De Buik Magazine was released in summer 2025 and is packed with stories from people who live and breathe flavour. From chefs reinventing culinary traditions to hidden terraces, bold recipes, cold brew, and spritz culture. We follow The Hague’s own Julia Nona to her Sicilian roots, hit the streets with TV chef London Loy, and explore how Michelin-starred Maksut Aşkar translates his vision on migration into a local Rotterdam café.

You’ll also find stories about classic ice cream shops, fearless neighbourhood favourites, and timeless dishes – from saoto to soba, from rooftop spritzes to cheese boards. A magazine to keep, to flip through, and to get lost in – for anyone who loves food, stories, and cities with character.

Made with – and for – people with taste
For the second edition of De Buik Magazine, we collaborated with our talented network of writers, photographers, and designers. Their deep understanding of the culinary world led to a rich, layered, and personal publication that truly resonates. For the design, we partnered with carenza* and opted for a bold and expressive visual style: rich typography, surprising spreads, original imagery, and photography that breathes atmosphere – just what you’d expect from De Buik.

Dex managed the full process: from editorial concept and coordination to layout, production, and distribution. The magazine was produced sustainably and with care: sturdy paper, high-quality finish, and a format that invites you to browse, take it with you, and keep it on your shelf. This is how we make the experience of De Buik not just visible – but tangible.

Launched on location
The magazine was launched on a sun-soaked afternoon at restaurant Kwie Kwie in Amsterdam—the Surinamese spot owned by TV chef London Loy, who also features in the magazine in a full-length interview about his favourite dining destinations. During the launch event, we celebrated this new edition together with chefs, advertisers, De Buik contributors, and hospitality friends.

One of our own brands
De Buik is one of Dex’s own brands, alongside Gers!, Onze Haven, and publishing house Kyosei. The platform has grown into a valuable place for hospitality entrepreneurs, chefs, and food lovers throughout the Netherlands. With the magazine, we give even more visibility to stories that matter – and show that print is very much alive.

Want your own copy? Join Club de Buik and it will land on your doormat, hot off the press. Or order a single copy from Kyosei.
