In public spaces, experience and durability go hand in hand — especially when it comes to art in the city. For a mural in a parking garage in Rotterdam, the Municipality of Rotterdam – Urban Management wanted to create a plaque that would tell the story behind the artwork. Not a standard sign, but a solution that matched both the surroundings and the quality of the project.
As a trusted partner, we were asked to help determine the best execution.
From design to production
The challenge lay in combining aesthetics with technical feasibility. The plaque needed to be robust and vandal-resistant, suitable for long-term outdoor placement, while maintaining a premium appearance.
We advised a brass plaque with engraved and lacquer-filled details — a conscious choice that is durable, timeless and perfectly suited to the urban environment. We also played an active role in the design process itself, providing clear guidelines for file preparation and explaining what was technically possible within this production method.
Working closely with design agency 0to9, we ensured that design and production aligned seamlessly. Short lines of communication, fast coordination and continuous fine-tuning were exactly what was needed to meet the unveiling deadline.
A tangible story in the city
The result is a high-quality brass plaque that strengthens the story behind the mural and provides context for passers-by. A subtle yet powerful element that invites people to pause for a moment.
Through the combination of material, finishing and execution, the plaque is not only informative, but also a durable addition to the public space.
