Stichting Humanitas: A new direction

For years, Stichting Humanitas has been one of Rotterdam’s largest care organisations, driven by an unwavering heart for its mission. But in times of rapid change, even the most trusted organisations need a new direction. Dex joined forces with Humanitas to translate this fresh course into a powerful, clear story—ready to be shared with the world. The result? Compelling stories, striking portraits, a captivating campaign video, and a one-of-a-kind card game.

From policy to powerful narrative
Social change brings new challenges—and the care sector is no exception. Humanitas came to us with a clear question: how do we translate our new direction into a story that everyone can understand? And just as importantly, how do we bring that story to life—both for our staff and for the people we serve every day?

Let’s be honest: policy documents aren’t always the most engaging reads. But Dex embraced the challenge. What began as a strategic plan for the future became something much more: The Power of Humanitas—a clear, inspiring narrative that brought the soul of the organisation to life.

Real people, real stories
But we didn’t just rewrite The Power of Humanitas—we made it visible. We started by capturing a series of beautiful stories, paired with powerful portraits. We interviewed clients, residents, staff, and volunteers. Their stories and faces became living proof of what Humanitas stands for: a place where people can be themselves and shape their lives—even when a helping hand is needed.

The portraits were shared as large-format posters across Humanitas locations, each paired with a powerful quote. Curious readers could scan a QR code to uncover the full story behind the image.

Spoken word that speaks to the soul
And we didn’t stop there. We created a stunning campaign video with the same team behind Het Hart van Rotterdam. Spoken word artist Derek Otte wrote a piece based on Humanitas’ core values. And the stars of the video? Humanitas’ own people.

The power game
Then came The Power Game—a card game designed to spark real conversation. Played in teams, it brings out personal strengths and encourages reflection on what makes the organisation strong. The idea came from Humanitas. The concept, content, and production? That’s where Dex stepped in.

To top it all off, we created a visual ‘placemat’—a one-page roadmap that summarises the new direction in a single powerful image. Every tool we made serves the same purpose: bringing the new Humanitas vision to life from within.

People work, at its best
We’re proud to have played a role in the journey of Humanitas—an organisation that truly makes a difference for the people of Rotterdam. Contributing in this way to the city we love is a privilege. This was people work, in the truest sense of the word.
